Buoy Hill House is a charming country residence, located in a scenic rural area off the Dungannon Road, outside Portadown. It is a truly unique landmark property, oft admired by passers by. Built just over 100 years ago, legend has it that a member of a local family, who had 'made good' in America, sent money home, to build a house that would be 'robust and comfortable for many years'. Their wishes were obviously carried out, as it is still a fine home today. The site was chosen, partly to facilitate transportation of handmade bricks from the works in Coalisland across Lough Neagh and up the River Bann by barge. A laneway, which is still present today was made from the River bank, where the bricks were then moved by horse and cart.
The property was renovated in 2001, when the roof was replaced, PVC double glazed windows and oil fired heating were added. At the same time the kitchen and bathroom were also changed. Today, it is still a comfortable home boasting three bedrooms and three reception rooms.
The property should appeal to someone seeking a country home with the added advantage of a farmyard with a barn, a range of outhouses and an orchard.
